Bottled water's global consumption on the rise!

.

The sector is booming and doesn't look like slowing down!

It's what arises from a recent research presented by Zenith International, a leading consultancy firm in the "drinks" sector. The packaged water's market grew by 6% in 2007 and bottled water volumes reached 206 billion litres. Sales on global markets totalled 63 billion Euro: 19% up from year 2000's figures and with an average growth rate of nearly 9% per year.

The segment of bottled water is the most important in the beverage sector. For that reason it has been analysed in any aspect by taking into consideration consumption's trend over the last 6 years in 75 countries in North and South America, Western and Eastern  Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Pacific. Western Europe's market resulted the most mature and consolidated, with a consumption's growth rate equal to 6%. But it's in Asia and North America that a real boom has happened: Asia has registered a bottle water consumption increase of about 21% from 2000 to 2005, while North America followed with 12%.

SMI and the bottled water's segment

.

During 2008 nearly 70% of  SMI packaging machines produced has been absorbed by the bottled water and soft drinks industry. SMI has been able to successfully answer the various requirements of large-sized producers of bottled  waters, offering a wide range of machine models. The increasing demand for PET containers has been met by launching the new series of SR rotary stretch-blow moulders, that combine top productivity and energy savings. Worldwide manufacturers of bottled water especially appreciated the new models of stretch-blow moulders for large containers (SR HC series), capable of producing "High Capacity" bottles up to 10 litres. This latter format has become very popular amongst water's producers and consumers and is the ideal solution to successfully chase the consumption's trends of the last 6 years that have been recording annual increases of nearly 20%.
